LONDON. Feb. 4.
It is rumoured that, thp Duke of Devonshire, Secretary of ; State, for the Colonies, has resigned the chairmanship of the British Empire Exhibition, and ', that Sir Robert Home, late Chancellor of the Exchequer, has not accepted an in- . vitation to succeed him. I"; is understood that the Duke of Devonshire's resig- . nation is not connected with Sir W. Joynson Hicks' report, which will bo issued to-morrow, but is due "co the difficulty of retaining the post since his appointment of Colonial Secretary.
