Fifty-eight members of the" local Tararua Tramping Club, men and •i; women, 1 have returned from a visit to Mount Cook. I No serious climbing from an Alpine point of view 'was undertaken, but the party had a most enjoyable time. ; After accomplishing one of the minor ascents on the ; lower 'ridge; of Mount • Cook, three; or a. party who had; separated from the guides rashly at-; tempted to take a short cut across the Hooker ■> River. to the Hermitage. ■ ■:. Most of the/experimenters were washed off their feet, but luckily they were able to scramble ashore. = ;>
