Colonel : Tate, for the last four years, has been Administrator, of- Samoa,' which position f he -is vacating during the ; next few, weeks. For : many years Colonel Tate practised as a solicitor in the Wairarapa district. Ho was admitted to the bar in 1886. :
A deep interest in military matters. has always been» taken by Colonel. Tate and he has held, particularly during the war, several important positions j under the y New .Zealand defence system. In--1914 he relinquished his law ;■ practice and •was appointed to the command of 'the Wellington military district, holding that appointment until 1916, when he accepted the office of '.
