COAL-GAS POISONING.
The death of Joshua Lazar, a secondhand dealer, of 110, Hohson Street, who died on Sunday after being admitted to the hospital, suffering from the effects of coal-gas poisoning, was the subject of an inquest held before the coroner, Mr. J. W. Poynton, S.M. . ' • . ; John Hiscott, of 108, Hobson" Street, said that on Saturday'he went to the back Of the deceased's shop. He forced a door, and found deceased sitting, in a chair with a gas-tube in his mouth. It was .tied with string round his neck. Witness pulled the tube out of his mouth. Lazar was conscious, and spoke. .-.,-■ ■■-./.. ' t * "He had been 'talking about suicide, said witness, "for about five years-all* the time he had bean fc, neighbour. <; The deceased, continued witness, was a cripple, and suffered much from illness. He had had one- leg amputated, .and at times was much depressed. ■ ' ■■'■<■ Dr. Gerald J- Frengley, house surgeon at the Auckland Hospital, said that deceased had a weak heart, otherwise he might have recovered. •••.'■:. - The coroner returned a verdict that death was, caused by heart failure, due to coal-gas poisoning, self-administered, ,in an attempt to commit suicide.
