THE SCIENCE CONGRESS.

OPENING ON THURSDAY. It is anticipated that 350 scientists will attend the sixteenth meeting of the Australian Association for the Advancement, of Science, which will commence in Wellington next Thursday. Altogether one hundred and fifty delegates are coming from Australia, including some of the most prominent scientists of the Southern Hemisphere. The New Zealand Government is displaying its sympathy with the association, and has agreed to grant concessions which will mean a great saving. Shipping and motor companies are also making concessions to the travelling members. The association is interested in all branches of science, so the gathering in Wellington should be representative, in character. It is divided up into 13 sections, and the wide scope of the association is best indicated by stating these sections. They are:—Section A: Astronomy, mathematics, atjd physics. Section B: Chemistry: sub-section, pharmacy. Section C: Geology and mineralogy. Section D: Biology. Section E: Geography and history. Section F: Ethnology and Anthropology. Section G: Social and statistical science. Section H: Engineering and architecture. Section I: Sanitary science and hygiene. Section J: Mental science and education. Section K: Agriculture. Section L: Veterinary science.
