TROTTING.
ALEXANDRA PARK MEETING. TO-DAY'S PROGRAMME. LARGE FIELDS ENGAGED. The flags will be flying at Alexandra Park to-day, when the Auckland Trotting Club will inaugurate their Hummer Meeting. At every meeting held of late by the A.T.C. there lias been solid evidence of the growing popularity of trotting, and it will apparently only require fine weather to enable this year's gathering at Epsom to eclipse all its predecessors under many headings in a pronounced dogree. The Auckland Trotting Cup. which comes up for decision on the opomng day, has a field of '23 engaged, and that should ensure the greatest contest to date at the Epsom ground. Man-o'-iVar. who led the field home in the two preceding jears, holds his place, and with Great Hope and Alto Chimes al*o figuring in the nomination of Mr. J. K. Corrigan it will bo readily recognised that the I'atea sportsman holds a very strong hand, and it would seem safe to conclude that ho will furnish a combination that will stand out as the favourite selection. The Great Northern Derby, which also figures on to-day's programme, will probably find the 2000-guinea colt Acron on the scene in an endeavour to win the bluo ribbon. Acron will have to contest against a very powerful opponent in tue shape of Ahuriri, who can be depended upon to acquit himself in high-class stylo.
