AUCKLAND WEEKLY NEWS.
TO-DAY'S EDITION. THE HOLIDAY SEASON. The pictorial fiction of to-day s issue of the Auckland Weekly News contains a wide range of bright and interesting illustrations. A striking doublepage is devoted to subjects dealing with the Christmas and New Year holidays in New Zealand, depicting the many sports and pastimes indulged in by holiday makers at this season. The frontispiece, which is also appropriate to the season, is a beautiful study of a charming young girl on the tennis courts, while another very pleasing page shows happy New Zealand children playing with their pets. Interesting pictures, too, are tnosttaken recently at the Otira tunnel, which pierces the Southern Alps, and will be opened for traffic shortly to give railway connection between the East and West Coasts of the South Island. A camera record of a recent trip through the South Island makes another very interesting series, while photographs received by the .latest ovesseaa mail are many and varied'. Among other topical subjects axe the following:—Unveiling of the War Memorial at the Auckland Grammar School: Wellington's first children's playground; the King and Queen on a recent visit to Scotland; tourists on Franz Josef glacier, Westland; the GovernorGeneral's first official visit to Taihape; and views in connection with the recent graafc motor show in London.
