THE SALE AT TIMARU. 95 PER CENT. CLEARED. FULL BENCH OF BUYERS. The first wool sale of the season for South Canterbury was held in Timaru on Friday, and was a great success. In all 8591 bales were offered and 95 per cent, of the offering was sold. The sale was 'held before a full bench of buyers, representative of Bradford, America, Japan, Germany, Belgium, France and New Zealand mills. The sale started at 8 a.m. and finished at 12.30 p.m. The bulk of the wool was three-quarter-bred and crossbred. For these there was spirited competition, and prices were about a penny better than those obtained at the recent Cliristchurch sale, while they were about on a par with those oi the Dunedin sale. Only a small lot of Merino wool was offered. Comparatively littlo of this had come to hand so far from the back country. The halfbred wool submitted was not so attractive as that offered at the Christchurch sale. It was heavier in condition and carried about 5 per cent, more weight. Very few of the best halfbrcd clips of the district were forward. Taken as a whole the wools were brighter this vear than last, no doubt owing to the fine weather and the absence of dust storms, but some of tho wool from sheep which had been turnip fed was a little earthy.
