STRUGGLE AGAINST CRAMP. RESCUE BY YOUTHFUL SURFER. [BV TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] F7ANGANUI. TuesdayThe sea at Castlecliff to-day was quite normal. Thousands of people, old and young, indulged in surfing. Yesterday afternoon, however, the se;, vras most capricious, and several narrow escapes from drowning were reported. One young woman was almost gone, ana a young man named Adams would have been drowned but for a timely rescue by a lad named Gmbb, who is a very strong ewimmer and is used to- surfing. It appears that Adams was attacked with cramp while swimming beyond the breakers. Being Christmas Day, there were only a few people on the beach, and Adams' predicament was unnoticed iov over a quarter of an hour. Etowever, he battled against the strong backwash with a portion of his body pfiralysed. Young Grubb, thinlcing there waa something wrong, swam out with a lifa line, and soon had the patient ashore. Adamr. was very sick after his rescue. Ho said he had given up hope of being saved when he found young Grubb beside him.
