MATRICULATION STANDARD

ALREADY HIGH ENOUGH. [BY TELEGRAPH.— OWN CORRESPONIIENT.] CHRISTCHUKCH. Tuesday.

The Rev. E. C. Crosse stated in his annual report at the Christ's College prize-giving, that he did not think the standard of matriculation in New Zealand should be raised. He thought that the examination should be held more than once a year, as boys who failed by only a few marks in one subject had now to wait a whole year before they could complete the examination. It was not fair to expect the same standard of merit in boys of the same age in England and in New Zealand. The speaker wished that boys would stay on at school at least for one year after passing matriculation.
