AUCKLAND'S NEW ZOO.
A large collection of interesting illustrations is published in to-day's issue of the Auckland Weekly News, recent events of importance being particularly well covered. A double page is devoted to splendid views dealing with the opening of Auckland's Zoological Gardens at Western Springs on Saturday last, and a fine paroramic view of Eden Park taken during the progress of the cricket m&tch between the English eleven and the Auckland representatives. An excellent study of a lion and lioness in their new home at the city Zoological Park, makes a striking frontispiece, while two further interesting pages feature the opening match of the M.C.C. tour in New Zealand, giving splendid portraits of the players and snapshots taken during the game. Pictures received by the latest overseas mail include the wedding of the exKaiser, the coronation of Rumania's King and Queen, the New Zealand war memorial at Longueval, France; the Girl Guide movement in Australia, and the new tennis courts recently opened at Rushcutter's Bay, Sydney, New South Wales. Snapshots of happy young Aucklanders enjoying the warm summer days at the seaside make another bright page appropriate to the season. Among further interesting subjects are:—Some prominent members of the new British Cabinet, the recent athletic meeting in Wellington, the site of recent v important historical discoveries in Egypt, construction work on the Mohaka bridge, Hawke's Bay; and the timber industry at Mahirakau in the King Country district.
