NAILS AND CHARACTER.

The appearance of the nails is said to bo a good indication of the state of health, of tho o\vner. But more tiian this, thfl size, shapo and colour of the finger nails tell an observant person a great deal about the disposition of the individual. Txmg-nailed people arc pentle and carm ;an 3 generally quietly cheerful. They do not fuss or get restless. But they are also rather too cautious and lacking in selfconfidence, and are apt to be obstinate rn their opinions. Thequick and keenly critical person fall of animation, inclined to argument and analysis, almost always has round, even pink -nails. If they are small as well, then she is rather a melancholy nature and so thin-skinned that she is always taking offence where none was intended. Nails broader than they are long indicate a worrying and rather meddlesome disposition, and scolds and " grousers " usually possess square-looking nails. Narrow nails go with scientiiic ambitions. Their possessor will be sfuuftas, but not particularly gentle cr amiable. People who bite their nails are often declared to be ill-tempered, but this is much more frequently a sign of a highlystrung and nervy temperament, rather over active mentally. The owner of nails which are fluted <w furrowed should take good care of the general health, for this is invariably a s'en of rather a run-down physical condition. For this reason it is found fr? a time immediately after severe illness or when the possessor is overdone. White spots on the nails are generally also an indication of illness, but if tf.e nils otherwise seem perfectly healthy they may indicate a natural ' shrinkitg from tbe unpleasant and distasteful and a determination to avoid such things.
