An interesting case was heard at the Magistrate's Court this morning, when a meinre: of the' Central Fire Brigade applied (or exemption from territorial parade?. The superintendent of the brigade stated that the applicant was on the permanent staff and occupied an important position. , Lieutenant. Wales strongly opposed the application on hehalf of the Defence Department. He maintained that the applicant had been prosecuted for failing to attend parades and that arrangements could hp made- in regard to certain parade?. The granting of exemption would give a. lever to other employers to make similar application. The magistrate said he could not afford to treat, lightlv the strong application made bv the (ire brigade superintendent, and the request would be granted as long as the fireman remained in his pio-s-riit position.
