A chr.rge of having attempted to commit suicide was preferred against Reuben Thomas Wallace, aged 36, before Mr. J. E. Y\ .'lson, S.M., in ilie Police Court on Saturday. Accused attended with his neck in bandages. Ho was discovered at his home at (.'nehunga. on Thursday evenjng with his throat cut, and had been in hosl pital since. According to the police, he had been drinking during the day and his health had been affected through nnr.jicial worries. He had since obtained a situation on a steamer. In reply to the magistrale he willingly agreed to take ou: a prohibition order against himself. Op. this condition he was convicted and ordered W pay 24s expenses. CHARGES OF THEFT. The 'theft of small sums of money from the clothes of bathers at the tepid baths was charged against Ernest. Stevenson, aged 36. It was alleged that he stjle £2 7s 6d from Frederick Dobson. snd 10s from Norman Robert Alderson, on Friday. As further inquiries were L<-ing made regarding the accused he was remanded for a week. A remand of a week was also granted in the case of Marion MeLood, agea 38, who was charged with having stolen a quantity of cutlery valued at £8 7s sd, from the shop of Ren dells, Ltd. _ Charged with drunkenness for the fifth time m six months, George Harrison, aged 41, was sentenced to one month's hard labour. He had 27 previous convictions.
