SERVICE TO WHANGAREI.

FIRST TRAIN NEXT WEEK.

A through passenger service on the North Auckland Main Trunk railway from Auckland to Whangarei will be established next week. At present an express train is run by the Railway Department to Huarau from Auckland on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, returning on the alternate days. Arrangements have been made by the Public Works Department to establish a service between Whangarei and Huarau to connect with the express train each day at the latter point, leaving Whangarei and Huarau on alternate days. Passengers will have to negotiate about five chains on foot. Tho first train of the new service will leave Whangarei next Thursday, and passengers by it will reach Huarau in time to catch tha express, which leaves there for Auckland at 11.40 a.m. The Herald's Maungaturoto correspondent states that there is yet a gap of about five chains between the railheads near Mareretu. A road has been formed across the gap, arid passengers will be obliged to cover the distance on foot and entrain on either side. The Public Works Department has made arrangements for the transport of passengers' luggage across tho gap. .. It is anticipated that the railheads Will bo connected in about six weeks, after which the train journey between Huarau and Whangarei will be uninterrupted.
