LONDON, Dec. 5.
Sir J. Morton Griffiths called attention in the House of Commons to the formation of companies in Australia for the development and closer settlement of the Northern portion of the Commonwealth. He asked whether representations had been made by any State Government or companies for assistance under the Empire Settlement Act.
Mr. W. Ormsby Gore, Undcr-Secre-tnry for the Colonies, in reply, said that his attention had been invited to the possibility of co-operation under the Empire Settlement Act in schemes to develop tho Northern Territory, but it was best that migrants should be settled in the Southern parts of Australia, and that settlement of the more northern parts should be preferably undertaken by persons already acclimatised to those parts.
