At the trial of Henry Waterson and his alleged accomplice, Thomas MacDonald, on a charge of manslaughter in connection with the death of Mrs. Jackson, the Crown announced a nolle prosequi in the case of Mac Donald, who was discharged. The other case was adjourned.

Remarkable evidence was given at an inquiry into the death of Mrs. Jackson, who was found dead, bound hand and foot at her home at Sandy Bay. The evidence disclosed that Waterson had been, engaged to the deceased's daughter but the -engagement was several times broken oK owing to trivial causes. Waterson, with the object of winning the family's gratitude and bringing about the marriage, arranged with a friend to enter the house and bind Mrs. Jackson. Then Waterson was to arrive, drive her assailant out and release- the victim. Evidence was ' aUo given that Waterson offered £40 to £70 to the man who did the' job, and that Waterson and another man were seen to enter Mrs. Jackson's house on the day of the tragedy. The medical evidence showed that death was due to fright and shock.
