The report of the working of the Offenders' Probation Act for the year indicates that tho wider discretion given to the Courts was appreciated by judges and magistrates as enabling them to vary to a greater cxtont than before, the treatment of the cases coming before them. All the probation officers report most favourably on tho results of the enlarged system. It is pointed out,. however,-that the system must be wisely and carefully administered.
