SUBURBAN DESTRUCTOR.
THE QUESTION OF A SITE, MT. EDEN COUNCIL'S ATTITUDE. Matters in connection with the proposed suburban destructor at Dominion Road were mentioned at the meeting of tho Mount Eden Borough Council last evening. Requisitions were received from tho Board of Health empowering the council to take such measures as it thought necessary for the destruction of refuse, and approving of the four local bodies combining for the purpose After the requisitions had been read by thd Mayor, Mr. J. W. Shackelford, Mr. W. H. Hammill moved that the council appeal against tha requisition empowering the erection of a destructor at the Dominion Road site. The Mayor: There is no question of a site in this requisition, and therefore you cannot deal with tho matter of a site. It was decided that the council proceed to give effect to the terms of the requisition. At a later stage the Mayor said that Mr.. Hammill would have "no opportunity of moving a, notice of motion, as contained in tho order paper. A motion which had already been given effect to could not bo rescinded, and tho matter was now in the hands of the local bodies. Mr. Hammill objected to this ruling. Mr. A. M. Bryden asked what was the use of holding a special meeting tomorrow evening to discuss the question of the destructor if the wholo thing was settled, or if there would bo no oppor-1 tunity of reopening the matter. Could they agree to an inspection of other parts [ of the district? Tho Mayor replied that if the Health' Department, vetoed tho site and told them! to find another, they would havo to do I
so. If a reasonable aud proper objection. was made, tho department would have to listen.
