TAKANINI REQUIREMENTS.

THE RAILWAY SERVICE.

A deputation of members of the Takanini Welfare League met Mr. R. W. McVilly, General Manager of Railways, at Takanini station yesterday morning. The deputation stated that a ladies.' waiting room promised by a district traffic manager some three years ago was still very much needed. It was also considered that a bi-weekly goods service from Auckland should bo established, as with the "once a week" service Takanini goods were at present often railed to either Monurewa* or Papakura and carted from these stations. Ihe erection of a goods shed was requested and also cattle yards. Another matter brought under Mr. McVilly's notice was the running of. the train from Auckland at 5.17 p.m. to Papakura. It was pointed out that as this train catered for the* long-distance passengers it should leave Auckland ten minutes' earlier, and further, run as a non-stop train similar to the 12.8 p.m. Auckland-Papakura Saturday train, thus enabling Manurewa, Takanini, and Papakura passengers to get home 20 minutes earlier than at present. Mr. McVilly expressed surprise at the growth made by the distriot ~in such a short period. He promised that the matters brought forward would be fully considered, and every possibly facility would be provided to promote the business of the department.
