SOLDIER SETTLERS.
Sir, —I read with interest the letter of " Hard Up" on this question. I, like hundreds of others, signed a biil of sale to the Government over stock and implements, etc. I was advanced £750 for this, with which I bought cows, implements, manure, and horses. At that time cows- were worth anything up to £30, and everything else was at a correspondingly high figure. At the present time, up for auction, I would bo very safe in saving the lot- would not. realise £300. T have also spent every penny I j took off the farm in improvements and j replacing stock. Perhaps the beards of ! inquiry will he given power to write down j everything to a. fair price, and give us j the 'same terms of repaying as is given j to those who borrow for a house, or j from the Advances to Settlers. 'To do this | would no doubt mean a fair sum to the Government, but still the sacrifice would bj no greater than what was made by «3 % few years ago. Soldier.
