AUCKLAND'S BUSY PORT.
SHIPPING IN SEPTEMBER.
A total of 519 veasels arrived in Auckland during September, the gross tonnage being_ 224,293, and the net tonnage 131,266. These consisted erf two Royal Mail steamers, 10 large cargo steamers, 12 inter-colonial, or Island traders, 25 coastal steamers, three Government steamers, two inter-colonial sailing ships, and 465 local coastal vessels. The oversea gross tonnage was 75,663; net 47,216. Compared with the corresponding period of last year, large shipping showed an increase of six vessels, but a decrease of 23,423 gross tons, add 15,268 net tons. Local coastal vessels showed an increase of 64, of a gross tonna.ge of 6130. The departures last month consisted of two Royal Mail steamers, 11 oversea steamers, 11 inter-colonial steamers, one mission ship, 23 coastal steamers, three Government steamers, two inter-colonial sailing vessels, and 425 local coastal vessels of a grand total of 253,336 gross tons and 137,487 net tons.
