CITY COUNCIL VACANCY.
SEAT ON POWER BOARD. NOMINATIONS CLOSE TO-DAY Nominations for the vacancy on the City Council and the Auckland Electric Power Board cloeo at noon to-day, and the by-election in both cases "will be held, if necessary, on October 25. Candidates so far announced for the vacancy on the City Council are Messrs. C. H. Furness, J. J. Sullivan, and A. Thompson, and for the Power Board, Messrs. L'. Joll and W. H. Murray. With regard to the City Council vacancy, Mr. Furness made a suggestion yesterday that representatives of the three candidates should meet and come to an agreement as to which two should withdraw from the contest, thus saving the council the expense of the by-election, estimated at £400. To be efFective, the suggestion would require to be acted upon before noon to-day
