CHURCH SOCIAL SERVICE.

PROMOTION AND CO-ORDINATION, j The creation of a social service board to promote and co-ordinate church social, work in tho dioceso was approved by the, Anglican Synod yesterday. In moving j to this effect, Mr. C. J. Tunke said tho church was too modest in regard to the great social work it was doing throughout the Auckland province. Anything would help to make the public better ®c- j quainted with this work would serve* fl. valuable purpose, and propaganda in this direction would form an important function of the proposed board. There waa | fine (scope for women's work in *:uch j institutions as tho Children's and Orphan; Homes and it could only be ignoranco of the work there accomplished that could account for the fact that fo few women found a life work in these organisations. Another aspect of tho board would bo activities in assisting in raising l funds for the various institutions which I thought fit to affiliate. j Mr. C. F. Bennett said the propoftfd i board should be able to accomplish much: in the way of propaganda. The work pelformed at St. Mary's Homes, Otahuhu, for instance, was magnificent. Mr. C. Hudson, chairman of the committee of tho Discharged Prisoners' Aid Society, declared that because the work of the' society was carried on without much publicity it received not more than between £6 and £8 a year in subscriptions. The Rev. H. Mason, honorary chaplain to St. Mary's Homes, also supported the proposal. 'Flie standing committee was empowered to approve tho constitution of j mich a hoard and appoint the first two synod representatives. It was agreed; that the synod representatives should be appointed to the board triennially and j that the Bishop Bhould be ex officio u member.
