OHURCH EXTENSION FUND.
ELECTION STATUTE AMENDED.
The Anglican Diocesan Synod continued its sessions yesterd)ay, Bishop Averill presiding. A resolution was passed, oh the motion of Mr. 0. J. Tunks, expressing regret at the resignation from the synod of Mr. H. G. Seth-Smith, md placing on record an appreciation of his services to the diocese. , A resolution was passed incorporating the Home Mission Fund and the Home Mission Endowment Fund with the Central Fund, and altering the name of the latter fund to the Cenaral Fund for Church Extension and Home Mission Work. It was also resolved to make a strong appeal during the season of Lent to all church people to give their Lenten offerings to defray the deficit at present existing in the Home Mission Fund, ana to make special self-denial offerings for the purpose. A bill to effect the alteration of name was introduced by Mr. J. Hogben and read the first time. The first division to be taken during the present session was called during the evening on the second reading of a bill, introduced by Mr. J. Hogben. to amend the Diocesan Synod election statute. The bill proposed to increase the number of registered church members entitled to vote for synodsmen and churchwardens from 200 to 400, and further provided that the seat of any synodsman should become vacant in the event of his failure to attend any session of the synod without obtaining leave of absence from the bishop. The latter portion of the bill was carried, but the first portion was rejected in committee by a narrow majority of laymen. *A hill to amend the parish statute to make it conform with certain amendments to the canons adopted by General Synod was read a second time. Bills amending the financial regulations relative to the payment of stipends and amending the regulations for the management of cemeteries were read the third time.
Canon C. A. Tisdall and Mr. C. J. Tunks were elected clerical and lay members, respectively, of the board of nominators.
The election of the Standing Committee resulted as follows: Clergy: Archdeacons H. A. Hawkins and E. M. Cowie, Canon Percival James, Revs. W. Beatty, 0. H. Grant Cowen, G. Gordon Bell, and P. S. Smallfield. Laity: Messrs. C. Hudson, C. J. Tunks, J. Hogben, A. E. Young, J. C. Dove. Norman Burton, H. Gilfillan, W. C. Hewitt, and A. S, Holmes. .
Synod was adjourned until this afternoon.
DIOCESAN CONFERENCES.
CLERGY AND LAYMEN.
A conference of the clergy of the diocese was held during the morning, Bishop Averill presiding. Matters of importance regarding missions were discussed, those attending being later the guests of the Bishop and Mrs. Averill at luncheon. At 10 a.m. to-day a conference c? the lay members of the synod will be held, the members being afterwards the bishop's guests at lunch.
