AUCKLAND HARBOUR BOARD
RAILS FOR ONEHUNGA WHARF
The Auckland Harbour Board met yesterday, the members present being Messrs. H. R. Mackenzie (chairman), W. Wallace, J. Henderson, E. J. Carr, W. B Leyland, T. B. Clay, J. H. Bradnoy, and E. H. Davis.
The tender of Brown and Dureau, Ltd., of £453, for the supply of rails for the Onehunga Wharf, was accepted. The other tenders were: J. Duthie and Co., £496; W. Cqoko and Co., £500 10s; Spedding, Ltd., £565 10s.
An application from the City Conncil for permission to negotiate with the land owners opposite tho municipal abattoirs afc. Westfield, regarding the riparian rights, with a view to acquiring this land for the purpose of the aoattoir was declined. The chairman explained that the area embraced some 400 acres in tho upper reaches of the Manukau Harbour, and the intention of tho City Council was to graze stock on it The engineer, Mr. W. H. Hamer, reported that of the 12 electric cranes ordered by the board, eight had arrived. Five were in commission, and two others were finished, with tho exception of tho jib. The eighth is to be placed in position next week, Tho parts of the remaining four cranei are expected to arrive shortly.
