SOME INTERESTING FACTS.

WHAT THE DIRECTORY REVEALS.

Some investing facts regarding New Zealand surnames are supplied by a correspondent as the result of investigations during a long stay in a waiting room in which a directory was the only source o: occupation. In connection with the finan-' cial position of the country, there are in the whole Dominion two Farthings, one Halfpenhy, 49 Pennys, thousands of Browns, 19 Spratts, 1 Groat, 71 Tanners, 3 Shillings, 1 Crown, and 11 Pounds. Tho following names have a pleasant jingle: Money 18, Cash 16, Silver 13, Gold 12, and dozens of Goulds. While there is not a Beggar in New Zealand, scores are namea Beeg, 13 Fortune, 27 Rich, and only one Poor. New Zealanders are evidently not easily over-r«ached. While ; there are three dozen Crooks and hundreds of Sharps, tlmeare only five Flatte in the country. ' L Regarding our domestic and other animals, we have 17 Wratt«, but only two Katz. • There are nc Dogs, but plenty of Doigs, 10 Rabbits and 13 Bunny h, two score Bullocks. droves of Bulls, 4 Heffers, 27 Steers, and ho Sheep, though ihere are hundreds of ..Shepherds, amd Lsuibs ar.d Lambies by the dozen. We have 10 Ducks and nearly 100 Drakee, 7 Qoosemans and 2 Gandara, 1 Fowle, 34 Cocks, and Cox innumerable. *

Further, we have 2 Piggins, bat no Pigs, no Swine bat scores of Hogs, 3 Horseys, 35 Mairs, 1 Gelding,. 2 Goers, and 50 Gees. ,
