CHINESE HEAVILY FINED. [BY TELEGRATH —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] WELLINGTON, Monday.

Last week a staman named Hemus was convicted of smuggling opium. To-day a Chinaman named Joe Lain was convicted of having two tins of opium in hiß possession. The police stated that this opium was part of the drug which Hemus smuggled from the Ulimaroa. Accused was fined £40 and costs, and was also fined £10 and costs for being in possession of a firearm, namely a revolver, which the polios found folly loaded cm a table
