STOCKS AND SHARES.

The firm tooc on the Auckland sharemarket waa maintained yesterday. In Government stocks business was done in Soldiers' Loan (bonds) at £99 15s, more being wanted at £59 10s, sellers closing at £99 163. Inscribed Stock in the same loan had sellers at £99 15s, buyers £99 12s 6d. For War Loans, 1958, buyers offered £97, holders asking £97 15s. The 1927 issue was wanted at £96, but no sellers quoted. Inscribed Stock, 1927, waa also sought at £96, without sellers. Inscribed Steele, 1929, had demand 1 at £95 17s 6d, and the 1938 issue at £97, with sellers of the latter at £97 15b. In banks Commercials were looked for at 33s 3d, no sellers quoting. Nationals still had intriirv at £b without sellers. New South Waie3 cased' a shade to £35 ss, buyers £34 15s. New Zealands sold at £6s, buyers offering 55a 9d, sellers asking 56s 3d. Unions of Australia had demand at £13 2s 6d, sellers declining ( a shade to £13 6s 6d. There was sustained inquiry for other investment stocks, and in gaa Aucklanda (con.) were done : at 18s 6d. In miscellaneous lines Auckland Tramways (ord.) changed hands at 18s 6d. In mining Waihis firmed, there being several transactions at from 30$ to 30s 3d to 29s 9d, with late sellers asking 30s, buyers offering 29s 3d. Grand Junctions at 9a 2d were wanted at 9s Id. Moanataiarig had buyers at 3s 6d, sellers holding for 3s lOd. Muir's Gold Reefs were in demand at 29a 6d', sellers 30a 6d. The following sales took place:—Soldiers' Loan (bonds), £99 15s; Bank of New Zealand. 565; Auckland Gas (con.), 13s 6d; Auckland Tramways (ord.), 18s fid; Waihi, 30s, 30s 3d, 30s, 29s 9d.
