RAILWAYS AMENDMENT.
AN AGREEMENT RATIFIED. [BY TELECBAS'H. —SPECIAL BEPOBTEB-]. WELLINGTON, Monday. The Railways Amendment Bill was introduced in the House of Representatives to-night. The Minister for Railways, Hon. D. H. Guthrie, explained that the BiJl had been brought forward chiefly to give effect to the agreement between the department and the Locomotive Firemen, En&iiiedrivora and Cleans' Association, regarding wages and conditions. Another clause provided penalties for the making of false statement® in apnection with goods presented for carriage. The department had found that some firms had been taking advantage of the regulation under which lime waa carried free for farmers. It appeared that farmers had bought more lime than they required, and then handed the balance over to the firms for sale, thus giving theso firms a special advantage. The new provision was intended to Stop that.
