LOWER PRICE FOR MILK.
REDUCTION IN WELLINGTON.
SEALED BOTTLES AND TOKENS. [BX TSLXGRArH—OWN COBBESPONDEST.] WELLINGTON. Monday. The now prieas of milk came into effect in Wellington yesterday, and simiritaneoiisly the new issuo of metal tokens in place" of the paper coupons originally introduced with the city sealed bottle milk scheme, came into use. The quart of milk instead of costing 7d, aa has been the case throughout the winter, is now costing only SJd, and tho pint is half that price. The tokens are of nickel, and in order to distinguish them off-hand, the milk department has had the quart coupon, which is exactly the size of a shilling, slotted to a depth of an eighth of an inch from tho edges, and the pint coupon, which is a trifle smaller than a sixpence, slotted a sixteenth of an inch deep in order that people may not be defrauded when hurriedly counting money. Despite this precaution, however, some of the tokens have already passed.into the hands of tradesmen as coins, having been mixed up with ordinary money. The tokens bear the Wellington ccat of arms on ono side and the words " one quart" or "one pint " stamped on the other. The success of the scheme now seems assured, and the Wellington Civic League has issued a statement congratulating the City Council, and especially its Milk Corhnnttce, "on tho great work done in putting into operation such public control as is giving the citizens the cleanest, healthiest, and best supply of miik the city has ercr had."
