Free State troops, pursuing rebels who were retreating to Ballina, ran into an ambush in Mayo hills, in the neighbour- i hood of Bangororris, ' but succeeded in beating off their assailants after a stiff fight. Two officers and six men were killed. Ten rebels were killed and several wounded. The telegraph wires between Dublin and Holyhead have been cut. FREE STATE MINISTRY. SALARY LIST FIXED. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Reed. 6.5 p.m.) LONDON. Sept. 20. The Dail Eireann fixed the salaries of the President of the Executive at £2500, other Ministers and the Speaker at £1700 : and the Deputy-Speaker at £1000. Members other than Ministers and officials will be allowed £30 a month for expenses and first-class railway facilities between Dublin and their constituencies.
