A report from tho manager of the Calc-donia-Kuranui-Moantaiari Goldmining Company's mine at Thames, covering the period ended on Wednesday, states that the main crosscut, whicli i« being driven in. a eoutheasterly direction parallel with tho Moanataiari slide, and on the hillward side of the latter, is now in a total distance of 286 ft. The country is much harder, but the manager describes it as being kindly country for gold.. Within tho next 60ft he states that he will cut the Caledonian reef, if it is true to its course. The drive in progress on No. 9 reef, tho first lede cut in the main crosscut, is now in 90ft. At a point 23ft back from tho present faco an old drive put in on a break from the old Moanataiari tunnel was passed through. This break has now been penetrated and No. 9 reef bos again been picked up on tho other sido of it. A fair sample taken from the faco on Wednesday ohowod by assay a value of £8 6s 7d * ton. 'MINE MANAGERS' REPORTS. New Waiotahi.—North-west Lode: A chamber has been cut out and the necessary windlass placed in position, and sinking at this point is in progress. A strona body of stone is showing in the bottom of the winze. The Quartz is very- promising, carrying bright mineral and blende. On the footwall leader the leads appear to be making much stronger and nice country is showing in the face. ...... Ohinemun.—The north drive is now in 141 ft. The reef is the full width of the drive with the hangingwall showing. The quartz broken out is oxidised.
