STOCKS AND SHARES.

The tone of the Auckland sharemarket yesterday improved a little as the result of the more assuring news regarding the Turkish situation. Investment stocks were in better demand, and prices finned in one or two instances. In Government loan issues, Inscribed Stock, 1927, changed hands at £96 2s 6d, or 2s 6d more, than the previous day's buying price. For 1929 Inscribed Stock £96 was paid, an advance of 5s on the rate offere'd on Wednesday. War Loans, 1938 and 1939, were looked for at £95 15s, sellers standing at the , previous day's quotations of £97 ss. Soldiers' Loan (bonds and inscribed stock) had sellers at £99 10s, with buyers of the latter at £99. Inscribed Stock, 1938, was down ss, with sellers at £97, bui buyers offered only £95 15s. Numerous inquiries cam© in for banks. Australasias were wanted at £13, sellers £13 ss. Commercials still had sellers 'at 345, and there were buyers at 335. Nationals sold at £6, or 2s 6d less than the selling rate on Wednesday, with late sellers at £6 Is 6d, buyers £5 18s. New South Wales again had sellers at £35 10s, buyers offering £34 ss. In insurances New Zealanda had sale at 27s 9d, more being looked for at 275, sellers 28s. South British were offered at 36s 6d, buyers 355. In gas Aucklands sold at 23s 9& (paid up) and 18s (con.). In shipping Huddart-Parkers (ord.) were quoted at 49s 6d (ex div.) by sellers, with buyers at 48s 6d. In timbers I Parker-Lambs were done at 245. In misI collaneoua. lines sales took place in New Zealand Milk Products at 20s, Thames Theatres at 18s, and Wilsons Cements- at 19s 6d. In mining Moanataiaris again had good demand and prices improved, j business being done at from 3s 6d to 3s I 5d to 3s 9d, with late sellers asking 4s, and buyers offering 3s 9d. Waihis were looked for at 27s 7d, sellers 28s. Grand Junctions sold at 8s 10s, more being sought at 8s 9d, sellers 9s. For Muir's Gold Reefs buyers came in at 28s, but there were no sellers.
