THEFT AND ASSAULT. YOUTH'S BAD COMPANY. A series of charges was admitted by a fifteen-year-old lad in the Juvenile Offenders Court on Saturday, when he came up for sentence on a charge of breaking and entering the premises of the New Zealand Reed Loom Company, and stealing a perambulator valued at £7. The additional charges were that he stole ten packets of cigarettes; received 2s, well knowing it to have been dishonestly obtained; robbed Maranji Daya of two apples valued at sixpence, and at the time Or immediately afterwards used personal violence; and that he assaulted Maranji Daya. Chief-Detective Mcllveney said the first three offences were committed in company with a convicted thief. Regarding the other charges the chief detective 6aid that accused and another youth had robbed and assaulted a Hindu hawker. Ihe lad had been living away from home, and had got into the habit of staying out late at nicrhfc and associating with hoodlums and undesirables. His present position was due to lack of supervision. In view of the lad's previous good character and the fact that he was now living at home the magistrate adjourned the case for two years, restitution to the extent of £1 19s 6d to be made, and boy to be under the supervision of tho juvonile probation officer. ASSAULT AND MISCHIEF. Another fifteen year old lad admitted having assaulted a little girl and hating broken three windows in the technical school at Devonport. In connection with the second charge it was stated tha v , 19 windows had been broken altogether, two othef boys being concerned in the affair. In view "of the fact that the youth had a position to go to which would take him away from the city the case was adjourned for two years, restitution in respect of the windows broken to be made.
