THE LAMBING SEASON.
GOOD RETURNS EXPECTED. BREEDERS MORE HOPEFUL. Sheep farmers in the Auckland province, are said to be getting good lambing returns this season. Reports from North Auckland state that in Mangonui County a mild winter has been experienced and sheep are in excellent condition. The percentage of lambs is expected to be high, though tho Limbing season commenced rather later than usual. Tho Herald's Warkworth correspondent states that farmers who last- year had little heart to breed are now looking forward to a better market, with the result that a good many more lambs 'will be reared than was the case last season. In the districts South of Auckland sheep farmers are expecting good returns. The Herald's Cambridge correspondent states that lambing is proceeding apace "and the prospects for a successful season are practically assured. Notwithstanding that during thfe la.st two months this farming area has suffered an almost unprecedented number of severe frosts, he adds, the average of lambs is exceptionally good. One of the largest eheepownera in the district states that the ewes of his Bocks have attained tho excellent percentage of 114. Mortality is light and tho general condition of flocks is all that could be desired. Tho only cloud on tho horizon of the sheep farmer is the British market. For the progress of the Dominion it is to be hoped that tho. market will sway in a direction favourable io those relying upon this important industry. Favourable reports have also been received from tho King Country. The season there is rather later than in the North, but the results so far indicate that an excellent season will be experienced.
