SUNDAY TRAIN SERVICE.
REQUEST FOR EXTENSION. PAPATOETOE REQUIREMENTS A suggestion that the train service on Sundays . should be extended from Otahuhu to Papatoetoe was made by a deputation from the Papatoetoe Town Board and the Progressive and Beautifying League that waited on the railway traffic manager. The deputation stated that a population of at least 2000 would be served, and that the two trains now running each way between Auckland and Papatoetoe did not give the residents, or their town friends, an opportunity of visiting each other. Most trains that ran to Otahuhu in the week days ran to Papatoetoe, and it was felt that the Sunday patronage would warrant at least two more trips being extended. The deputation agreed to forward an application in writing, stating the probable patronage and other information for consideration by headquarters. The deputation also waited on the engineer of the Railway Department, asking permission to plant flowers, shrubs, etc., on the railway reserves adjoining the station. In this case, also, written application is to be made.
