THE LEYS INSTITUTE.
EXTENSION OF BjJILDING.
INCREASED FACILITIES.
The extension of the Leys Institute buildings, Ponsonby, which was under-, taken some time ago by the trustees, has been completed. The lending library space has been doubled, and a large quantity of general literature transferred to tho new room. Now that the necessary space is available it is intended to give facilities for the circulation of bound volumes of magazines, and also technical books, which have overflowed from the division of the reference library, devoted to works dealing with the useful and fine arts, commerce and industry. This section contains morn than 4000 books, constituting one of the most comprehensive collections* of works on these subjects in the Nonunion. In addition to the enlargement o{ the lending librarv the extension of the building has provided a basement, which wjII serve as a stock room for volumes overflowing from the general reference library. The shelf room thus secured will accommodate several thousands of books easily accessible to the librarian and readily consulted by readers through the medium of the catalogue. The library now contains 24,000 volumes, and though great difficulty has been experienced in finding space, as continual additions are being made, this pressure has now been relieved in a manner which will place the resources of the library at the disposal of the public.
