SEA SERVICE FOR BOYS.
j . - NAVAL RECRUITING RESUMED. | Recruiting for the Royal Navy, which has been suspended since February last, has been resumed. The announcement was made by Lord Lee, First Ixird of the Admiralty, when addressing the lads of the Metropolitan Asylums Board training-ship Exmouth. The Exmouth was not only recognised in ! Britain as a model establishment, but I jilbo overseas. South Africa had decided jto institute a training establishment on I the same lines, and the vessed was to be ' known as'the General Botha and to be a i model of the Exmouth. Australia* was I doing likewise. A vessel like the Exmouth provided a physical training second to none. It was also a reservoir which provided some of the finest material for the Royal Navy. Tho Board of Admiralty showed a great interest in the ship and in itsi future Unfortunately, owing to tho necessity— the dire and dreadful necessity, as ho conceived it—of having to cut- down the | Navy, there had been for some time past J no recruiting from the Exmouth for H.M. I naval training ships and establishments, but it was proposed to reopen recruiting for that purpose shortly. (Cheers.) j Therefore, the boys of the Exmouth I would not have long to wait for the ■ chance they so desired. While the naval authorities would not be in a position immediately to take the full output, he hoped thai within three or four months thtey would be able to take as many lads as the Exmouth could send them. Thus, Exmouth boys would get the opportunity for which he knew they were longing, namely, that of ioininc; the greatest service in the world. (Cheers).
