REPORTED GOLD DISCOVERY
"WORK NEAR 'KUAOTUNU.
The right to prospect for cold in the Owera district, near Kuaotunu, Ooromandel, on what is known as Mr. J. Sohischka'a property, was secured some time ago by Mr. T. (i. Scot*, c* Auckland. Mr. Scott says that he was satisfied with the prospects, and that he has now secured the mineral rights over 100 acres f together with the rights for working the property. He states: "1 prospeoted this property 16 years ago and found good payable gold then, but not being able to secure a lease® of ths ground on what 1 regarded as 'reasonable terms from the then owner, i covered up my find until a favourable opportunity offered. After a good many years had elapßod, the property changed hands, and I approached the owner with a view to securing the mineral rights, which 1 was successful in doing. Early this year 1 was joined by Messrs. P. Collyer and J. Cattarall, of Kllerßlie, ■ and since April last we have been busily engaged in exposing the various reefs on the property.",
MINE MANAGERS' REPORTS. Ohinemuri. —The south drive has been temporarily suspended, and at 187 ft. a crosscut is being put out to test the width of the reef at thia point. The hangmgwall is exposed, but so far the footwall is not yet in sight. The width of reef i* 17ft., and the quartz broken out looks . favourable for carrying values._Tho assays at 179 ft. and 184 ft. are low. The crosscut at 100 ft. north proves the width of reef to be 26ft. 6in.
