STOCKS AND SHARES.
There was a good demand for stocks and shares on the Auckland sharemarkei
yesterday* Strong inquiry was made for Government Stocks, but in only three lines did sellers quote. For War Loan, 1938, holders asked £94 sb, buyers offering- £93 15s. Quotations for War Loan, 1939, were sellers £94 ss. buyers £93 17s 6d. Inscribed Stock, 1939, was wanted at £93 15s, but sellers withdrew after quoting £94 at the second call. In banks New Zealands sold at 52s 6d, and at the close buyers offered 52s 3d, sellers asking 535. For Union of Australia £13 was paid and there was further inquiry at £12 19s, sellers quoting £13 2s 6d. In insurance Nationals changed hands at 67s 6d, and more were wanted at that figure, sellers 695. Now Zealands re mained steady at sellers 31s, buyers 30s, and South British at sellers 38s 6d, buyers 38s 3d. In shipping there was a transaction in Huddart-Parkore at 48s. In mining Waihis sold at 30s 6d, 30s, 30s 6dj 30s 9d, 30s 9d, the olosing quotations being sellers 30s 9d, buyers 30s 6d. Waihi Grand Junctions sold at 9s, 9s, 9s 3d, 9s 3d, and the- market closed with inquiry at 9s 3d, sellers asking 9s sd. The following sales took place- :— Bank of New Zealand, 52s 6d; Union Bank of Australia, £13; National Insurance, 678 6d; Huddart-Parker, 48s ; Waihi. 30s 6d, 30s. 30s 6d, 30s 9d, 30s fid; Waihi Grand Junction, 9s, 9s 9s 3d, 9s 3d.
