A ZOO FOR AUCKLAND.
Sir. —Tu my way of thinking all the proposed sites are too far from the city U> benefit the children. I suggest therefore, Ca'nbage Tree Swamp, which, I understand, is now being drained, would be an ideal spot for a zoo. It contains a larce unoccupied acreage, and the advantage cf one ~ovtndary facing Edendale Ttoad. along which the* trams Till soon be running. This would bring the zoo within of Queen Street. LOVKR OF ANIMALS. Sir, —It is with great pleasure I see our citv fathers are at last going to consider tlie question of a zoo. Wellington has done something, having a very ,-reditabie little zoo, and it is quite time '.hat Auckland woke up and did even Uetter than Wellington, because we have much better situations for a modern cave zoo. What i* better than across the harbour, near Chelsea prefei,*d? The site needs to have a hilly basis for cave ■kmslruction for lions, tigers, bears, etc., and this land ousht to be bought cheap. Aucklanders don't really realise the great boon. a zoo would be to their children. 1 bopo this matter will not be allowed to lie dormant, for we are a great many years behind trie Auptra'ian cities in civic »-• May I also hope to see at a future date a zoo across our harbour, to 1)e named Waitemata Park Zoo.
