PUBLIC SERVICE "CUT."

GROUNDS OF PROTEST. [BX TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] } ; HASTINGS. Tueeday. The following resolution was carried at a meeting of all branches of the publio servants held last evening: That this meeting enters a strong and empbatio protest against any further cut in the salaries provided for in the, Public Expenditure Adjustment Bill, on the grounds (1) the Arbitration Court, aXter hearing complete evidence, ruled that a reduction of 5s a -week, to take " effect from May 15, was all that was justified in general wages; (2) in comparison our first cut, 6s and more per ,/ week, from January 1, was unduly large, |, - and further reductions are not justified; (5) the cost of living on the latest published figures is rising; (4) the proposal is therefore nothing more nbr less tnan special taxation levelled against one section of the community, a section wbicn in the aggregate is far less able tear the burden that other sections; (s)| it cannot be shown that the duties of public servants have been lightened, either in weight or responsibility, since the basis of their remuneration last fixed; (6) that as a clause in the Public Expenditure Adjustment Bill dealing with cases ot undue hardship has not yet been put 0 into operation, public servants supporting large families are placed in a serious position as tbe result of the first out. This meeting protests against the Werament's long delay in granting relief . to applicants. This meeting calls upon members of Parliament, particular y those of our own district, to strenuously oppose the proposed further reduction on principle and on the ground of undW "hardship to an industrious section of VD» community, which is debarred by r«golation from supplementing 'wages «V other means when off duty. .
