PLEA FOR ZOO.
I Sir,—l note that other persons hav« taken exception to the treatment meted out to Mr. Boyd by 'a section of Auckland's suburban While qmte aware that the Zoo was established as a money-making venture, yet the tact.remains that it enabled hundreds of children to gain a practical knowledge of wild animals which otherwise would not be obtained bv one in a thousand through travel. Now, it appears to me that the k.lution of the present difficulty would be for-the Citv Council to take over the remainder of the animals and establish a Zoo for the benefit of the rising generation. As the council now control the tramwavs the amount of revenue collected from visitors to an institution of ihe kind would alone compensate for the outlay. The takings of the ferries from i trippers to the Sydney Zoo on a Saturday or Sundav would probably astonish some of our cfty fathers. I have no axe to grind in this matter whatsoever, but it seems to me we shall deeply regret the passing of so excellent an opportunity to add one more attraction to our fair city. Let us wake up and show a little pub- | lie enterprise. A Lover of Animals.
