THE WILTSHIRE'S CREW.

Sir,—On reading the letter in Tuesday's Hekald re "Wiltshire Crew," I quite agreed 'with the sentiments expressed. The poor fellows who were wrecked and who lost practically all their belongings need all the practical sympathy they can (especially those who have loved ones dependent on them in the old land). Could not a collection be taken up at the Town Hall meeting to-day, Wednesday, in aid of their dependants, and so show onr practical Christian spirit. I am sure manv would be glad to give their 'mite," myself among the number. Practical. Sir, — Several correspondents have written suggesting a collection for the crow of the Wiltshire, and partiodarly for those who have dependants m Eng and Have any of them taken the trouble to ascertain whether those dependants are bWnc cared for bv the Shipwrecked Mariners' Society in England? We know that, the New Zealand Society, with.headquarters in New Zealand sent the men, and it is more than hkelv that their wives in Endand are being helped from Fnclish funds. The" Shipwrecked Mariners' "Society must have many claims upon it, but it "cannot bo without funds, I for every pissencef on a steamship 'contributes, and many give liberally. Few charitable societies have anything nke equal owportunities for raising money. I surest "that if wo knew the whole truth we would be satisfied that there is no need for any collection of funds in Auckland. CoNTRiBtrXOB.
