HELP FOR UNEMPLOYED.
ATTITUDE OF LABOUR. [B¥ TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] CHRISTCHURCH. Friday. The Canterbury Progress Li ague Corimittee, which did good wori last year in providing relief for unemployment, met to-day and agreed to again band themselves together for tho purpose of keeping down unemployment to a minimum during the winter. Mr. W. Goss moved that the Trades and Labour Council be again asked to send a representative to the committee. Mr. W. E. Leadley said he opposed that motion. The committee bad asked the Labour to send a man last year. A representative had attended, but never opened his month and after a few weeks ho had been withdrawn altogether. It would be humiliating to again ask Labour to send a delegate. Archdeacon Taylor said they could humiliate themselves if it would do any good. Mr. Goss said tho Labour Council had a right to withdraw their representative if they wished. It was a negative action on their part, but they had never made any charges against the committee. If they would assist this year he would be glad to accept; their aid. A member of the committee said he thought Labour would do more for the unemployed this year. Mr. Leadley : Yes, thera is an election in December. Mr. Goss' motion -was carried.
