OBITUARY.
MR. H. SYMONS.
The death of Mr. Henry Symons, of Hillside Crescent, Mount Eden, occurred last Friday, Mr. Symons, who was a native of Derby, arrived in Auckland in ioo4, and for some time he was actively interested in several commercial enterprises. He aftei-wards -was appointed town clerk of Grey Lynn, a position that he vacated in 1903, He subsequently joined the Auckland staff of the Health Department, but retired from the service several years ago. Ee was a frequeut contributor to newspaper correspondence columns, and in this connection he took strong exception some years ago to the changing of the name of Jermyn Street, which was named after one of Auckland's earliest residents. For several years he was president of the Auckland Sailors' Home, and during his term of office he organised a speciiii fund for the purpose of improving the building and refurnishthe home. He also was formerly superintendent of St. Barnabas' Sundayschool. He leav&s a widow and a eon, Mr. C. Symons, of Whangarei. A cousin, Major-General Sir William Penn Symons, was the tirst general to fall in the South African war in 1899, being mortally wounded at the battle of Talana Hill.
