CHILDREN'S BAKING.

DISTRIBUTION' OP PRIZES. The distribut ion of prizes to the winners of the children's scone baking competition, held at tho Bakers' and Pastrycooks' Exhibition, was carried out at tho Newton Manual Training School yesterday afternoon. The chairman, Mr. K. P. Burton, gave a short address to the children, saying ho hoped tho ceremony would bo a little encouragement for them to strive for greater things in the futiuro. Mr. G. K. Mathieson, who judged the scones, congratulated tiio prize-vrinners, and said the work 3hown at the inhibition did them great credit. He also thanked the instructress and all concerned far helping to make the competition such a success. Ho oould not help but notice the good conduct and orderly manner in which the children behave. Tho instructress, Miss McDonnell, thanked the committee en behalf of the children for the valuable prizes, adding that it would be a great encouragement for tho children for the coming year. The Jirst prizes were wrist let watches, and tho second pendants. The winners were as follow : — Ago 10 yenrx.—W. De L&tour, Mount Eden School, 70 points, 1; P. Hentz, Mouut Albert School, 69, 2. Johnstone, Newton East School, 74, 1; I. Sainty, Newton East School, 73, 2. Age 14 years.—M. Cooper, Potisonby School, 78, 1; 1") Nicholson, Pamell School, 76, 2. Ago 15 years. —E.
