NORTHCOTE DRAINAGE.
- __—*». l £27,000 SCHEME ADOPTED. OUTFALL REQUIREMENTS. The scheme prepared by Mr. F. E. Powell, C.E., for the drainage of Northcote was unanimously adopted by the Borough Council last evening. It was decided to hold a public meeting next Tuesday to explain the proposals. The area proposed to be drained includes the populated portion between the wharf to Onewa Street, and the main and side schools. With respect to the discharge from the septic tank into Big Shoal Bay the Harbour Board intimated that the whole question was considered by the board in 1914, and approval was granted under certain conditions. Mr. P. K. Powell said the district health officer, Dr. T. J. Hughes, supported the attitude of the Harbour Board,. This would . involve an additional tank, and discharge would be permitted only at ebb tide. This would bring the total, estimate to £26.200. Filter beds would not be reauired. Contract work was now being undertaken at very advantageous terms, and it was probable the tenders would bo under the estimate, as pricey were falling.
