WELLINGTON. Monday. The latest report on tho discharged soldiers' settlement scheme states that up to March <51 the losses on account of principal and interest have amounted merely to £7984. Rebates have, however, been granted on farms to the amount of £30,257, iiind on dwellings to £36,48 ft, maklnj; a total of £66,740. Rents remitted on account of Crown and settlement land have amounted to £18,500, and on discharged soldiers' settlement account for interest and instalments to
The arrears of rent on March 31 in respect of Crown and settlement lands amounted to £178,060. The arrears on discharged soldier's' settlement account totalled £348,875, interest being in arrear on currei'.t account, to the amount of £72,951, and instalments to £275,924, of which £2?>0,858 was in respect of farrna and £25,C66 in respect of dwellings.
The capitalisations in respect of rent and interest totalled 9076. The forfeitures, numbering 35 in respect of leasehold of Crown and settlement land, involved a loss of £.\7,986 in rent, and ths abandonment by returned men a loss of £68,538. Foreclosures had been made in the cases Of 29 farms and 25 dwellings.
